KPP Test FAQ — Every Question Malaysian Learners Ask

Updated 2026-08-16

How many questions are in the KPP test?

The computerised KPP theory test (eUjian) has 70 multiple-choice questions, preceded by a colour-vision screening using Ishihara plates. Since the KPP Gabungan update in August 2025, the same combined format applies to all license classes.

What score do I need to pass?

You need 80% — 56 correct answers out of 70. That means you can afford at most 14 mistakes.

How much time do I get?

75 minutes (1 hour 15 minutes). That is just over one minute per question, which is comfortable if you have practiced.

What languages can I take the test in?

Bahasa Melayu or English only. If you study more comfortably in Chinese or Tamil, use our bilingual study materials — they pair every topic with the Malay terms you will meet in the real exam.

How much does the KPP test cost?

The theory stage (KPP01 course, the eUjian and LDL processing) is typically RM200–RM350, bundled inside a full class D package of roughly RM1,300–RM1,800. Prices vary by state and institute, so always ask for a written price list.

Is the KPP01 theory course compulsory?

Candidates register through a driving institute and complete the KPP01 theory course before sitting the test. JPJ has been streamlining the curriculum in recent years, so confirm the current course format with your institute.

What happens if I fail the test?

Nothing dramatic — you can rebook and retake it. Your institute arranges a new slot and charges a small retest fee. There is no limit on attempts.

What is the colour-blind test? Can colour-blind people get a license?

Before the theory questions, you identify numbers on Ishihara plates to prove you can distinguish traffic-light colours. Difficulty with some plates may require confirmation by an eye specialist; severe total colour blindness can disqualify a candidate, since traffic signals must be distinguishable.

How long is the LDL (L license) valid?

Two years. You should complete your practical training and pass the road test within that window, or you will need to restart the process.

How long do I hold the P license?

Two years from passing your practical tests. P plates must be displayed at all times, a zero-alcohol rule applies, and accumulating 20 KEJARA demerit points cancels the license entirely.

What is the difference between KPP01, KPP02 and KPP03?

KPP01 is the theory course and computerised test. KPP02 is circuit practical training (hill start, parking, three-point turn). KPP03 is supervised road driving with an instructor. You need all three before the JPJ practical tests.

Can I sit the KPP test without a driving institute?

No. Registration, the theory course, the eUjian booking and all subsequent steps are processed through a JPJ-registered driving institute.

What is the minimum age?

17 years old for a car (class D) license, 16 for a motorcycle (class B2).

Can foreigners get a Malaysian driving license?

Yes — non-citizens with a valid passport and long-term pass (work, study or residence) can register at a driving institute and follow the same process.

How should I prepare?

Study the official curriculum notes, then drill practice questions until you consistently score above 90% in every section, and finish with at least one full timed simulation. All of that is free on this site — start with the study guide, then Section A, B and C practice, then the simulation test.
