About Section C — KEJARA & Road Safety

Section C covers the KEJARA demerit point system and road safety attitudes. It contributes 14 of the 70 exam questions — the smallest section, but one that catches many candidates off guard because KEJARA details are rarely studied properly.

KEJARA (Kesalahan Jalan Raya) is JPJ’s demerit system: scheduled traffic offences — speeding, running a red light, overtaking on a double line, using a phone while driving — carry fixed demerit points that go on your record when you are convicted or pay the compound fine. Accumulate enough points and you face warnings, license suspension, and for probationary (P) license holders, outright cancellation at 20 points, which means starting the whole licensing process again.

The rest of the section tests safety attitudes: fatigue and rest stops, the effects of alcohol and drugs, mobile phone rules, motorcycle awareness and courteous driving. These questions are mostly common sense — choose the most responsible option — but the KEJARA point values and thresholds must be memorised.

Tips for Section C

  • •Memorise the demerit point values for the common offences and the suspension thresholds — these are pure recall questions.
  • •P license holders: remember 20 points = cancellation, and the zero-alcohol rule.
  • •Chapter 11 of the Car and Motorcycle Study Guides covers the full KEJARA system.
  • •For attitude questions, the most careful, courteous answer is almost always correct.
